Planting Power Newburgh invites you to help us build local leadership to make the City of Newburgh greener, cooler, and healthier.

Last fall, the Conservancy, in partnership with Sustainable Hudson Valley and Rhinebeck Rotary, organized environmental training and community plantings of shade and flowering trees, along with three small food forests.

This spring, we’ll plant pollinator plots, rain gardens, and shoreline vegetation - engaging local residents, businesses, and community groups in planting and stewardship work.

Thanks to our funders and sponsors:

The Rotary Foundation, Hudson Valley Rotary District 7210,

Rhinebeck Rotary and Korea Rotary District 3700.

Centered in environmental justice and ecological restoration, the project’s core objectives are to:

  • Advance environmental justice & public health;

  • Build Newburgh community capacity to preserve, protect and sustainably use natural resources; and

  • Help protect and restore Newburgh’s environment.

Community engagement, education and action are the heart of this initiative.

Newburgh residents, especially young people, are learning about Newburgh’s environment, helping teach ways to restore our urban ecosystems and working with volunteers in hands-on projects to revitalize and enhance the City’s green infrastructure and climate resilience.

To ensure that everything we plant will thrive, the program is also building capacity for maintaining greenscapes–including a truck for watering and people power to care for plantings.

Here’s our new watering truck and some of the EJ Fellows involved so far in Planting Power Newburgh:
